forget what people think, be who you want to be

1. What is your best (and worst) memory from school?

Well, I think my best memory is probably Girl Scouts. Technically it was an AFTER school activity, but I think it counts. We did so many fun activities, we went so many interesting places (camping with wild horses?! so rad), I absolutely loved it. Looking back on it, there is no way I would be who I am today if I had not done Girl Scouts.

There was a time in middle school when I was (looking back) very unhappy. I tried to ditch my real friends for people I thought were my friends, and it ended very badly for me and I was even more unhappy.

2. What were you like as a kid?

Really weird. We had this bush/tree/shrub in our back yard, and when it bloomed it had these really sweet smelling, small bunches of white flowers. (I forget what it’s called and it’s bothering me but that’s beside the point) Every day for at least a summer when I went in our back yard, I would take a bunch of the flowers and put them on the nearest anthill.  One day my mom saw me doing it and asked what I was doing, to which I responded “I’m giving the ant queen her daily gift! I have to keep her happy or else she’ll be sad and ants will take over the world!”

3. What last made you laugh?

Thinking about the last question. HA. No but seriously, I was talking to my dad and his boss about what I would be doing today, and my dad’s boss asked if I had made any snowflakes yet. (I spent a good portion of my time at the company last year making paper snowflakes, and one is taped to my dad’s door). I was slotted to be making some this afternoon, and I told him so. He then told me to make one for the CFO, and put one on his door to remind him what they pay their interns to do, and I told him I’d have “dad do it, because he scares me a little.” Later that afternoon, the CFO walked by my desk, and my boss tapped my shoulder and said to look like I was on the computer because “David’s around, and making snowflakes probably isn’t the best thing for you to be doing.” Obviously I will be giving my dad one for his door tomorrow.

4. What’s your favorite word?

Um. I’m not sure. Content? I like words with multiple meanings.

  1. in a state of peaceful happiness.
"he seemed more content, less bitter"
  1. satisfy (someone).
    "nothing would content her"
  1. a state of satisfaction.
"the greater part of the century was a time of content"
  2. a member of the British House of Lords who votes for a particular motion.

Multiple meanings gives a word so much weight in my mind. Articulation is everything, and that’s becoming a lot clearer in a lot of parts of life now. With a word like content, I could be talking about a book, my state of mind, or how easily satisfied I am. That’s just so interesting to me. I dunno. Content is probably not my favorite word, but it’s a good way to define my favorite category of words I guess? I’m an odd one.

5. What is the story behind your name?

I’m not sure actually. I think my name was supposed to be Olivia, which is my sister’s name, but it got switched to Alexandra at the last minute.

6. What inspires you creatively or spiritually?

Music. Gimme a good song, album, anything and I will be hella productive and finish things lickity split. Music makes me happy, and when I’m happy I get things done.

7. What would you say was a defining moment in your life?

Not getting into my top college. I have never been so disappointed in myself, and I will never disappoint myself that much ever again. (Sidenote: things have worked out in my favor and I am EXTREMELY happy where I am.)

8. Tell me about a time when you were really afraid? What happened? How did you handle it?

I used to be really afraid of heights, I was afraid to go on roller coasters, stuff like that. Two summers ago my family went to the Grand Canyon, and obviously there is a large cliff. On one section of the Canyon open to the public, there is a series of stone walls. I don’t know how, or why, but somehow I ended up at the edge, right on top of a wall. There was a lip in front of the wall, so if I slipped I wouldn’t fall, but it was nonetheless terrifying. But, instead of closing my eyes, I looked out at the Canyon, and saw what was undoubtedly the most wonderful thing I have ever seen. Totally cliche hahaha but totally true. Don’t live in fear and you will see how beautiful the world is.

9. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?

10. What would you do differently if you knew no one would judge you?

I don’t know. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, but I can’t decide if people around me affect me as much as I think they do. If I care about them, their opinion counts, but those awkward semi-friend/frenemies, I’m not sure I care about their opinion of me that much anymore. Tangent, sorry. But no, I don’t think I’d do anything differently.

11. What makes you different than most people?

I can so focused on something to the point where it’s obsessive. If I really, truly love something, I will not focus on nothing but that thing until I know all there is to know about it. Nothing will distract me from learning about it, talking about it, doing anything other than thinking about it until I know everything. Unfortunately for my studies, it has not (recently) been anything in school, but I have a good feeling about this semester.

Hm. My 11 questions are:

1. Favorite song and why?

2. Least favorite food?

3. Happiest moment in your life thus far.

4. Describe your dream home (location, size, colors, get into it!)

5. Family member you are most like?

6. Color that most describes your personality?

7. Favorite piece of clothing that you own and why?

8. Decade you wish you were alive for?

9. Favorite board game?

10. If you were an animal, what would you be?

11. Do you prefer to do work inside or outside?

Don’t wish death on your enemies. Wish geese on them. Wish thousands of geese into their life. Geese in their yard. Geese in their car. Geese in their workplace. Geese in their bed. Tiny geese in their hair. Geese in their food. JPEGs of angry geese overtaking their computer. Turn their whole family into geese. Awful hissy mean geese everywhere. A fate worse than death.
